Creative motto: In a few words i’ll try to explain how I think about and work on my waterpaintings. The idea is more important than the work itself.

Thinking comes first, and then starting with it. Making the visitor curious and looking again and again. I did the research before. You have to ensure you for the proper documentation and thinking how to work it out. In ’65 I used acryl on canvas.

The latest 30 years I used only watercolour. You can find 2 sorts of works. First there are the studies, the exercices and secondly the works in wich use myself to tell you watch is going on. The studies before are necessary to come to a technic that makes it possible that the visitor can see, read, and understand, what is going on in the watercolour. The studies usually are landscapes, models, still lifes or portraits. To paint with watercolour is very difficult, but you need less material and you can start when you want, if you use 650 gr. Paper to work on.

A watercolour is only trying to express what the concept contains.

When I have an idea, immediately a machinery starts in my brain ( I think ) to work it out until it seems an original work.

I don’t think before, what are the consequenties, how will I do this or that to make it happen. All this takes a very long time. Finaly it must end in a watercolour that makes me happy. Meanwhile I search for a location, lighting, composition, the right clothes and all other requisites. It’s important to have good documentation, to take good photos in the right environment I a good atmosphere.

When I feel “ it can be what I want it to be” it’s creative, I can make the difference with this figurative work, I start combinating the requisites and the photos. Finally I start painting. All this makes it pleasant and interesting for me and hopefully for the guests. Now I can try to show with some pictures how several works were made. There are different ways to work origally. I can have an idea or something can suggest you to make something for him or her. While painting, something occurs to me out of the blue that can be used.

So it happened with the Leonardo-serie. One idea asks for a following one. In the eighties we came with the family to the Marche. Reading about the area brought us to Fabriano where I found the wonderfull paper of 650 gr. At the Cartolibreria Lotti from Giovanni Sciamanna. I asked him to make strong package that could travel without harming it back to Belgium. Receiving the package only the tape was visible. Once home I admired my treasure from Fabriano and I felled and had to do something with it before opening the package. The package itself inspired me and I called it the Hobby-box. A box that contains everything neaded to paint the Mona Lisa. Leonardo da Vinci inspired me helped me by painting it. I painted it that it looks if he himself send me the package from Fabriano. So this first part of the serie was born.
